Why Rainbow Railroad?

The authors of Why Are We Like This?, a book that celebrates the transformative power of Heartstopper®, have been committed to helping the LGBTQ community for many years. This recent news article provides some background on the inception of the book concept and the authors’ resolve to support LGBT+ charities with this work. Rainbow Railroad’s noble initiative has saved many lives, and their indispensable rescue work is even more desperately needed in these perilous times. No one is safe until everyone is. They are donating a portion of their book proceeds to the Rainbow Railroad in the hope that you will also support their work in any way you can, including sharing information about them on social media to raise awareness and help save lives. About Rainbow Railroad

Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit organization that helps at-risk LGBTQI+ people get to safety worldwide. Based in the United States and Canada, they are an organization that helps LGBTQI+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics. In a time when there are more displaced people than ever, LGBTQI+ people are uniquely vulnerable due to systemic, state-enabled homophobia and transphobia. These factors either displace them in their own country or prevent them from escaping harm. As a result of Rainbow Railroad, more LGBTQI+ individuals can access lives free from persecution, and ultimately, we envision a world where LGBTQI+ people can live lives of their choosing, free from persecution.

Since their founding, they have helped over 19,000 LGBTQI+ individuals find safety through emergency relocation, crisis response, cash assistance, and other forms of assistance.
