Why Rainbow Railroad? Every day, LGBTQI+ people around the world face violence, persecution, and displacement simply because of who they are and who they love. Around the globe, 65 countries criminalize same-sex intimacy; 12 of which have the death penalty as punishment. Rainbow Railroad helps them find safety and rebuild their lives.
Since 2006, they have received over 75,000 requests for help and, working with grassroots partners around the world, have supported more than 40,000 LGBTQI+ people, including facilitating international relocation for over 2,300 individuals fleeing persecution. They have raised over $65 million to fund life-changing programs spanning more than 70 countries.
Co-authors George Hightower and Rowan Murphy have been committed to helping the LGBTQ+ community for many years, and are donating a portion of the proceeds from Why Are We Like This? Stories of Transformation to Rainbow Railroad in the hope that you will also support their work in any way you can, including sharing information about it on social media to raise awareness and help save lives.
